Leslie hates metronome (節拍器), too. To play with a set tempo is a test of anticipation and fluency.

Hanon is a collection of boring songs (scales mostly) for practice this type of "synchronization" mechanism in Piano practice. I am sure there are similar songs in Flute to keep the tempo correct. There are also machines that can measure the "correctness" of your tempo based on "Hanon". The teacher actually grade your accuracy (jitter or wander) and post the results on bulletin board !! So it is far worse than plain Metronome :))

BTW, the more negative the better is what this machine measure, so a -125 is far better than a -50. My guess is this measurement is in dB difference (between your tempo and the metronome).
