The studies have also revealed to scientists looking to treat these diseases just how difficult their challenge really is. "For the first time, these are giving you the complete picture of these two cancer types," Velculescu says. "This is important, because if we ever want to cure cancer, we have to know what's wrong with it. And unfortunately, what appears to be wrong with most cancers is more complicated than we may have anticipated."
PS.癌症的研究 真的上軌道了
必竟要知道原因和發生機轉
才能開發適當的治療方法
One of the hottest topics in cancer research is epigenome. One appropriate description of what epigenome is that human genome is like the code book of a secret language. How does the cell become is controlled by the epigenome which is like the program written in this secrete language. The cancer cells has identical genome as the regular cells but the epigenome is modified due to mutation. This is like a careless programmer that create "run-away" process that eventually take over all "resources". Garbage collection and resource management is what operating system (human immune system) used to prevent system crash (cancer). Now the difficult part is that we just sequenced the Human Genome after 13 years so we have a code book. But we are still struggling to understand the grammars and syntaxes of this complicated "language of life". It is an amazing area of study for the next century!
