Roboticists Learn from the Dragonflies

a 14-channel digital wireless neural/EMG telemetry system, suitable for in-flight neural recording from flying insects such as dragonflies. It has a system mass of only 38 milligrams. The IC is powered by RF energy harvesting and consumes less than 1.23mW. It digitizes 10 neural and 4 EMG signals with 11 bit resolution as a 5 Mbps backscattered data stream at UHF (902-928 MHz). It has been fabricated in a 0.35um 4M1P CMOS process.

專利法修正：APP和圖像 可申請專利

立法院昨（29）日三讀通過專利法修正草案，擴大設計專利保護範圍，智慧型手機使用界面、APP應用程式圖像等都可申請專利，另增訂醫藥品研究試驗免責及延長規定。

智慧財產局長王美花表示，專利法修正案在立法院歷經二年終於三讀通過，預計明年11月上路。有助文創、生技、綠能、精緻農業、觀光旅遊、醫療照護等六大新興產業發展。

這次修法將新式樣專利，更名為「設計專利」（Design），開放部分設計、衍生設計、成組設計、電腦圖像（Icons），以及使用者圖形化使用者介面（GUI）等，都可申請專利。

王美花表示，如智慧型手機的使用界面、開機畫面，及APP應用程式圖像等，未來都可申請設計專利，強化對國內企業與文創產業的設計保護。

Real Book vs Digital Book

最近看慣了電子書對一般的書反而覺得怪怪的 目前我除了中日文的書都是實體書之外 英文書幾乎90%都是電子版的了! 雖然我也跟著大家買了 Steve Job 預購中文版 但是我是先把Audio book聽完 再看英文的 EPUB版 中文的只看了照片 就給我媽了!

PS.Machine Learning/AI 一直都是我學東西的最頂點 過去念電子時 我是 一路由電子學 數位邏輯設計 半導體設計 電腦架構 念到AI/Neural Net 這還是20年前的事 最近兩年 我是一路由 化學 生物學 分子生物學 生物資訊 統計學 又一路念到Machine Learning  只是多了統計學的底子 AI/NeuralNet 也比較了解多一點 ! 意思也就是不用在念了 該找個有趣的Target去耕耘了

PS.Machine Learning/AI 應該說是電腦科技應用上的最後的邊疆吧

Glucose Necessary For Cancer Growth May Prove To Be Its Weak Link

Researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have discovered that cancer cells tap into a natural recycling system to obtain the energy they need to keep dividing. In a study with potential implications for cancer treatments, Einstein researchers used genetic manipulation to turn off this recycling system within the walls of cells and stop both tumor growth and metastasis (cancer spread). The findings were published in the online edition of Science Translational Medicine.

Scientists have known that cancer cells require a large amount of energy in the form of glucose (sugar) to support their abnormally rapid growth. But it wasn't clear how cancer cells met those energy needs. The study shows that cancer cells fuel their growth by revving up autophagy, a recycling process that occurs in cell compartments called lysosomes.

opencvに該当するパッケージ一覧が得られる。最新のOpenCVは 2.1 （2010. 5 3現在）だけど、これは1.0かなぁ。
ソースからコンパイルするのは大変だから仕方ないかな。
今回は、python使わないし、ドキュメントもいらないので、opencv-docとpython-opencv以外をインストールする。

Robot Dog for the Blind

the Japanese manufacturer is working on a new mechanized canine that could one day serve as a guide dog for the blind. The company's latest prototype builds on the work of the University of Electro-Communications (UEC), which unveiled its first model, the NR001, in 2005, followed by an updated version (NR002) in 2007. With this third iteration, unveiled late last month, NSK and UEC have added a Microsoft Kinect sensor, which allows it to more easily identify and navigate obstacles or stairs. The quadrupedal beast can also scamper up and down steps with more grace than its predecessors, which moved more like arthropods than actual dogs. The bot's paws have also been equipped with obstacle-avoiding bumper sensors, and researchers are working on incorporating voice commands, as well. NSK says its guide dog could eventually feature GPS capabilities to provide more accurate directions for the blind and visually impaired, though it'll probably be a while before it hits the pavement; the company hopes to commercialize the dogbot by 2020

If Gene is the program,regulation is condition block and epigentic is condition compilation . A programmer's point of view.

I think the early development enviroment has more impact on after birth enviroment impact on epigenitics and regulation control. Also the stem cell to normal cell creation enviroment is a key. I think these microenviroment has a lot more impact on living enviroment .

And I also think , we are still living in RNA world. I belived there are a lot to discovery inside the nucleous. There are must some kind of DNA house keeping job maintain by RNA. Like chaperone protien help protien folding.

Human Brain Cells' Genetic Make-Up Changes During A Lifetime

Investigators from The Roslin Institute, at the University of Edinburgh have discovered that during the lifetime of an individual, brain cells change their genetic make-up. This finding could offer new insight into neurological diseases. The study is published in the journal Nature and was conduced together with researchers from Italy, The Netherlands, the United States, Japan and Australia.

The researchers identified genes known as retrotransponsons - which are responsible for thousands of tiny alterations in the DNA of brain tissue. They discovered that the genes were especially active in areas of the brain associated with cell regeneration.
